Crashing into Mun and delta v calculation

Recommended Posts

I am trying to do some missions from Mission Controller Mod and there are missions where you are required to just crash into Mun, Minmus, etc.

Questions:

1. What is the best (in terms of delta v) way of maneuvering to get this done?

2. If I take some standard delta v map (like this one) how can I estimate required minimum delta v for my mission?

not sure about 1, but for 2, you can estimate by adding all the numbers on the path you will follow, and that will be your required delta v. thats about 4500 for LKO, 900 to get to Mun, and for an impact, only about 100 more can probably send you crashing into the Mun. Hope that answers your question. (overall it will be about 5500 Delta-v). To measure how much delta-v a ship has you can use Mechjeb or Kerbal Engineer Redux. :)

Edit: manuvering to Mun:

launch, gravity turn at 10 KM, when Apoasis is at least 70 Km, turn completley horizons ways until you have a periapsis of 70ish also. Next, warp until the Mun is on the Prograde horizon, the horizon you are moving towards. Go to map view, burn prograde until you see a mun ecounter. The burn in different directions until you see your future Mun periapsis dropping. Eventually the Mun periapsis sign will dissapear, but there will be a yellow orbit line going into Mun. That means you have a crash course. Hope this helps? :sticktongue:
