Does this happen to you too?!

Recommended Posts

OK so!

since I started playing .23, Returning for orbit/any celestial body ( I mean't landing on an atmospheric body ) will ALWAYS flip my craft upside down, no matter what! this means the top of the capsule will be facing the ground, this always happens and there is no mistakes in designs or 'yaw'ing by itself.

I think this may be a bug, does this happen to you ?

Just played a few Kerbin returns, the capsule (the first one, with just a parachute on top) orients itself properly, bottom retrograde. Guess your return vehicle is more complicated, and the aerodynamic forces on it push it some other way. A screenshot would be helpful.

@JiWint, no way! I'm playing KSP since .17 ( played .13 before ) and I can say that I'm a professional at this ( I returned from eve, landed on every celestial body ) so I don't think I'm not good at designs lol!

but.. they may have changed something in aerodynamics that 'flips' the capsule, not always though, I returned 2 times without flipping but used ASAS to keep the nose up, if I turn it off It will flip

It might help if we saw a picture of the ships which are flipping on you, unless they are just capsules on their own?

The basic conic capsule is aerodynamically stable both up and down. If it hits the atmosphere sideways, it's going to flip to one or other orientation. If it strays too far from prograde or retrograde orientation, it's quite possible for it to flip to the other.

I don't have any issues with either capsules on their own, or a simple tube shape (e.g. capsule+materials+FL-T200+LV-909) flipping randomly.
