Saving a Lander!

Recommended Posts

So, today I sent a lander to the Mun (to be honest, out of the 5 I have sent this is my most successful attempt, Minmus is easier for some reason:huh: ) and I was like half way to making the orbit go into Kerbin when I ran out of fuel. So I was thinking I could send a ship to save him and I have made a ship capable of it, but I need help actually getting the ship into the same orbit and getting to the ship to save Bill... Or Bob... Anyways any of you know how I could rescue him, here is the orbit he is in.

So how can i save him?

Well, you're picture didn't work, but you said you are coming back from mun. If it has a kerbal in it, i think you said it did, you could get out and push with jetpack fuel, so you can refuel infinatly with the command pod. As long as you get your apoasis below 60 ish kilometers it will take a few orbits, but eventuall, your orbit will lower and Bill will come back. :D

Minmus is easier due to the lower gravity than the Mun. The but without a picture we have no clue if it is built with enough d/v.

Fix pic for others.

The jetpack works, else what I recommend is a ship rondevous. A rescue ship is very much like doing a planet rondevous. Set an orbit inside of target, and you can use the navigation nodes to plan your burns to get pretty close. Once you get close, try to match speeds as best you can, then jetpack them over to the rescue craft. The other option if you want the vessel back is do the same as above, but use a scoop of landing legs to push against the other craft and decelerate it to a de-orbital altitude that way.
