Is there a good office suite that is better than MS Office?

MS Office is damn expensive, recently bought MS Office 2010 Home and Student, for 75 zł ( 24.50 USD) because it was Christmas promotion.

Unfortunately, this version of Office does not include MS Access, normally i don't not need it, but now I collect materials for my MA thesis.

Could someone recommend me a good office suite, with a simple-to-use program for creating databases

Better is subjective.

Free is not: Open Office has all the usual office related apps and can save to most MS formats, if you need to share.

Both OpenOffice and LibreOffice have a database program. Between the two, it's a matter of preference.

But again, depending on what you want to do, a simple spreadsheet might be enough.

Never used it myself so I don't know if it's good or not.

I'll second that. Personally, I like it better than OpenOffice, and you get the convenience of cloud storage, ease of sharing, and ability to import/export across a variety of formats.
