A little help with editing, please...SaurKraut Legion

I'm beginning a machinima series using Kerbal Space Program, and based off of some earlier "dramatic" episodes I filmed for a psuedo-LP. I've decided to go full-scale machinima, using voice acting and advanced video/audio editing techniques/software.

Here's a link to the intro video I've compiled:

I currently use FRAPS (full version), Cyberlink PowerDirector Ultra 12, and Cyberlink ColorDirector 2.

Some questions I have/areas of assistance I need:

1. How to animate Kerbals (Kerbalizer doesn't give me what I need lol) in the manner similar to that which has been done by Squad.

2. Is there a way to change textures on parts (or put on decals, there used to be but I can't find it on the Spaceport anymore)?

3. Is there an easier way to change Kerbals' appearances other than painstaking frame-by-frame motion tracking and color replacement? I mean individual Kerbals, not just retexturing globally.

4. Is there another filming mod out there that can do better than KerbalCam (not that KerbalCam isn't great--it is--just looking for alternatives)?

I'm pretty good with computers, but don't know how to code very well (except HTML), so please break it down Barney style. Thank you!

*Edit* - I found Blender...downloading now...what I must discover for myself, I guess, is how complicated it's going to be. Also, can one insert his new models made in blender into KSP itself?

Ok...for the amount of time I have, I will try to mess around in Blender, but as I'm deployed in Afghanistan right now, and have a family back home, I might just have to stick with game footage.

So original question. How does one change individual Kerbal colors, ie: helmet stripes, or maybe put ranks on their space suits?

I would suggest looking at this mod, it allows you to have texture per-kerbal like you are looking for

Ok yeah, because the instructions on how to use that mod (the texture replacer) have no instructions on how to make the textures, and the instructions about naming and pathing...I don't get it. What the **** is a normal map? Confused. Once I figure out how to get it to work, it'll be awesome. If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it!

*edit*

Do I need UniverseReplacer to make this work?

That being said, if anyone can help me, I will be grateful. Anything from telling me where to find the Kerbal suit/helmet textures in the directories (I can edit them in a hex editor if necessary, then in GIMP, then put in for custom name-specific Kerbals), or if someone with a lot of texturing experience wanted to do a Soldier a solid, hit me up and we can discuss what I need.

Credit will be given where credit is due, of course.
