The Firestorm (Mach 7 capable turbojet plane)

Recommended Posts

FZLOBfml.png

Firestrom is my record breaking turbo jet plane. It is very balanced and easy to land and fly. Maximum speed over land: 2306 m/s is good enough for “True Machingbird†badge in The MachingBird Challenge.

Updated download includes 2 craft versions:

Firestorm (air hog).craft – the record craft version build with air intakes stacking (airhogging)

Firestorm (noairhog).craft – the purist’s choice vesion with only 12 intakes (no intake stacking)

Tech info (with intake stacking):

Engine count: 7

Air Intake count: 56 (8 intakes per engine)

Parts count: 151

TWR on runway: >10.5

Takeoff speed: 100 m/s

Maximum speed: 2306 m/s at 32 km altitude

Tech info (no intake stacking):

Engine count: 7

Air Intake count: 56 (8 intakes per engine)

Parts count: 77

TWR on runway: >11

Takeoff speed: 100 m/s

Maximum speed: 2180 m/s at 29 km altitude

@TheWanderer: 56 air intakes.....

per 7 engines. 8 intakes per engine is nearly not as far as many other are using.

With 3 intakes per engine this design has maximum speed about 2200 m/s. 8 are needed to exceed 2300 m/s. There are just no other ways to go such fast inside atmosphere.

Download updated - not airhoggy version of craft added. This version has only 12 intakes and still can reach 2180 m/s (or may be even 2200 m/s if piloted carefuly).

@Bartybum: thank you) I'm planning to release two SSTO based on this craft soon.

@xaerocsa: I'm not tested it with FAR) May be later

more than one third of the part count of the whole thing is air intakes. for me you really should be looking at only 1 or 2 per engine.

good work for what you wanted to do though

It is no problem for me to use no more than 2 intakes per engine. I've used 8 per engine only to achive “True Machingbird†(speed >2300 m/s). I've added version with only 12 intakes into download. It will just as fast - only top speed dropped for ~120 m/s becouse altitude >30 km on full throttle is now unreachable.
