The Kerbalosity Rover Version 1.0 !

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow Rocket Scientists! My name is Tavo and i present to you my attempt to replicate the curiosity rover landing using stock parts!!!! It features a nice rover with science instruments and a whole landing mechanism which includes a sky-crane :D. So feel free to use it for missions in any planet with an atmosphere. Any additions and improvements are welcome ! Let me know what you think :)

Instructions

1) Strap your rocket underneath it

2) Reach the planet of your liking (atmosphere required)

3) Decouple YOUR last stage

4) Follow the staging as it decouples the heat shield and develops the chutes

5) after the drogue chute is jettisoned throttle up juuust a little and press space to fire the crane engines so that you touch down softly using your main chutes as well (throttle depends on planet's Gravity so experiment a bit on kerbin first)

6) after you touch down safely jettison the crane!

7) Custom 1 toggles the antennas and solar panel while custom 2 automatically records science data

8) use the landing gear if the rover flips on its back or nose!

The staging for the landing is all set! Remember to toggle on the brakes before landing

Hi, I saw your rover and I think its awsome, gj :)

About improvements, you can simplify it and decrease weight by doing this:

1) remove all struts except for 3, they are heavy

2) remove all or part of your non-drudge chutes, you got rockets for final decent.

3) remove the saperatrons, you can just use the remaining liquid fuel for removing the debree.

4) also replace the sas with reaction wheel.

I Hope I helped, eldar158

Thanks for checking it out eldar158 and thats some great advice! There are 2 problems though

1. The engines are actually mounted on the chutes cause they kept spining the rover when mounted elsewhere ( somehow they arent leveled when placed on the crane)

2. the fuel runs out fast! id love to have only the drogue chute and then rely on my engines for landing but i find that the fuel isnt just enough :( Maybe im just a terrible pilot :P

But ill try to find a way to make it work !

Thanks for commenting , im glad you liked it :D
