I think I saw Jupiter.

I think I saw Jupiter, a few hours after sunset and an hour or two after moon rise. What do you think, could this be Jupiter? It sure was the brightest (excluding the Moon) in the sky, easily visible above the Moon with naked eyes.

I'm sorry for the blurry and slightly shaky images (not a good camera on my phone neither is my hand very steady).

Next step, spots it's moons!

We had a related discussion about a month ago. There was some debate about whether or not it was possible to see the moons with the naked eye. I won't speculate on whether it is possible or not, but Jupiter's moons do span up to about 1/3 of the diameter of the full moon depending on their orbital positions. I took the photo below with a standard DSLR camera with a 300 mm lens. I scaled the image down by 50% and cropped it for posting, but both the upper and lower images are the same scale.

Wow! I couldn't see that clear even with 10x50 binoculars. I guess it's about my eyes that are not capturing the light as well as your camera..
