Hey I am ambitious in creating the fastest craft under 1000m and i think i've done it already however I would also like to ask you the great people of the forum this...

What is the fastest speed you achieved under 1000m? (NO GLIDERS) (ONLY JETS AND ROCKETS) (be honest and truthful and no picture is required.) (NO CHEATS USED)

(Must be completely STOCK)

Heres mine:

Jet: 460

Rocket: 530

Also you may share your story on building the fast craft you made.

2203 M/s was achieved at around >10 meters, and it stayed under 307 meters.. It was supposed to be a planetary exploration vehicle for Kerbals, until I realized that pressing the up key made it defy gravity and start floating up at a decent speed, and pressing the down key turned it into a speed machine of doom.

Edit: Ahh whoops, missed the jet only part. Also, whatever happened to that 'delete-your-post' button we had so long ago?

This probably should be posted in challenges.

I made a similar challenge but the max was 2000 meters if I recall correctly. And it was air breathing engines only.

EDIT: here it is http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/26665-High-speed-Low-altitude-Plane-Challenge

In an exercise in absurdity, I strapped 16 Sepratons (largest TWR of any motor/fuel combination) on the tiniest probe core. I reached 750 m/s before the probe core self-destructed due to overheating. (The sepratons were out of fuel anyway.)

EDIT: Just for grins, I launched it in orbit... yeah, it went interplanetary.
