Docking Target

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I've successfully completed my first docking after alot of youtube watching and forum reading.

However in all the youtube clips, when getting close to the other ship/target the image shows it outlined in a circle and showing the distance to it.

That doesn't show for me. I need to keep switching out to the main orbit view then back again to see my distance to target. I have to get very close to see it on screen before I was able to use thrusters (I kept using [ and ] to align the ships to each other and slowly slowly getting closer with RCS thrusters).

Anyone have an idea on how to have it show? Apologies if the description isn't too helpful, not sure how else to describe it.

Cheers,

Koko

Did you have the other ship selected as target? In map view (while you're still far apart) click on the other ship's icon and choose "select as target" in the menu that pops up. That will highlight that ship and its trajectory and in 3D view you'll see a marker around that ship's position (if it's closer than 100 km), eventually with distance displayed when it's closer. When you're close, you can do the same with individual docking ports of that ships in 3D view - look at the other ship, right-click the docking port and choose Select as Target. Then it will draw yellow marker at its position and will show you the distance.

If you switch ships, this selection will clear. You'll need to select the other ship as target again after each switch.

Oh and if you don't see the marker even though you have the other ship selected, try pressing F4. That key turns ship markers on/off.
