This is quite a fun little game.

I've reached over 85km using this:

That was a decent fall back to earth.

(Note to self, the SAS explodes on impact.)

“It started out very lowkey,†Falanghe told the Report. “The first idea I pitched was actually 2D… it could have been done in Flash. Basically you built a space craft, and tried to launch it as high as it would go… and that was basically it. It was kind of like a high score game.â€Â

His employers liked the idea and greenlit the project. Feature after feature would be added until eventually the game was released to the public in 2011 with version 0.7.3, a very simplistic version of the Kerbal Space Program available today.

I saw once in an article about KSP that the initial idea was a high score game, where you try to go as high as you could with the rocket parts given. So I thought: "Why not have a leaderboard?" I couldn't figure a reason not to, so here is is.

Rules:

You must use PC, click HERE for the 0.10.1 challenge (Does not exist yet) as this version of the game is not available for Mac.

You must provide a picture of your ship in the VAB or on the Launch Pad.

You must provide at least two pictures of your ship in flight.

If in orbit, you must provide a picture of your Apoapsis and Periapsis.

You must provide a picture of the end flight screen with max altitude and speed.

You may NOT use the design shown above from the orbiter forums.

You MAY use the default vehicle that you get when you click on the Launch Pad. It's so hard to fly that it would be a piloting challenge to do anything with it.

Achievments

Circular Orbit: Apoapsis and Periapsis are within 10 km of each other.

Kraken Bait: Go so fast the Kraken attacks.

Clipper: Make Kearth clip away.

It's not easy being green: Have pieces of the spacecraft explode violently and still succeed in the mission.

SRB Champion: Use only SRBs.

Melted: Use only Liquid Fuel Rockets.

Bugger: Exploit a glitch.

I believe I can fly: Use a winged craft like an airplane.

Air Breather: Stay within the atmosphere the whole time (not an achievement for the height record.)

Karmin Line: Pass the current atmosphere line, and go beyond 69,890 meters.

Too Stable: Don't use any SAS units.

Safety First: Make sure the Kerbanauts survive landing (must take a picture of the landed pod)

0.7.3 is HARD!

To take a picture, you have to press ALT+PrtScn and paste it to Imgur.

No Struts.

No Fuel Lines.

No Vectoring Engine

No Vectoring Winglet

Radial Decouplers are wibbly wobbly explosion wosion.

Radial Decouplers can only mount SRBs.

You must hold F for SAS.

Fuel Tanks don't stack.

Atmosphere sharply cuts off at about 37 km.

No Time Acceleration. (This means waiting a long time to see what your orbit is like. I recommend

song.)

As one who has played before 0.21.0 might expect, the pod has no built-in ASAS. It DOES, however, have built in MagicTorqueâ„¢.

NO MAP SCREEN!

You can only enter in ONE of the categories, so Orbital velocities will not be on the speed leaderboard.

Example Player is a total badS.

Listen to this while in the VAB. It will grind your nerves and speed up building time.

We had similar (the same?) challenge in November. It's not hard to get really far away. I stopped my attempt at 2000 km when Kerbin already clipped away.

That was also my challenge. I'm rebooting it because I couldn't find it and the score system was terrible.
