Make stack separators disintegrate

Recommended Posts

Stack separators allow separating things from each other without leaving any visual clues on either. The only problem with them is, they stay in the space as an additional piece of debris.

My suggestion is to make the body of the separator disintegrate (explode) on separation so no debris is left behind. I believe that would make them a bit more useful (and preferred) than they are today.

Well, the Saturn V first-second interstage had a ring separation and that didn't self destruct. I think a better alternative would be to remodel the smaller two to make them thinner. That's the big reason I use the 2.5m stack separator over the decoupler on my service modules.

I also think with career mode and money, stack separators should come first and be cheaper. While decouplers would keep space cleaner, they'd be mid-latish tech and be expensive compared to stack separators.

That's just my balance thoughts.

It's not clear to me in what sense would making them thinner be a better alternative. Thin or thick, they'd still make a piece of debris after separation. My point is to get rid of that debris.
