Hey guys, I have recently bought KSP and was wondering, other than the training missions, will there ever be actual 'missions' in carrer mode where you are given a goal and help to complete a mission or is it only gonna be a do what you want kinda thing?

I think that the developers have previously stated that there will be no "set" missions, such as the kind you would find in FSX or other simulators, as they want you to be able to play as freely as possible. The contract system will generate a goal and reward, which you can achieve by any means you see fit. There will be a massive possible selection of randomly generated contracts, so you don't have to worry about the game ending when you complete all of the missions.

Otherwise, it would have to have a story, which I'm not against, but it would kill the original game. maybe an expansion, or KSP2?

Well, they have said that there will always be a sandbox mode where you can do whatever you want. But the career mode will indeed have missions, as announced today on the official blog!
