Cargo Twelve

This is the Cargo Twelve, an SSTO capable of putting a big red tank in orbit around the mun and returning (almost) intact to the surface of Kerbin.

Previous problems with climb sped have been remedied with careful re-positioning of the inboard, auxiliary jets to a place where they're not pushing on the plane itself...

Featuring cavernous payload bay, massive range, fairly friendly handling (with SAS on) and easily accessible fuel tanks for transfer.

The certification run shown encountered some (possibly kraken related) problems on the descent, but landed anyway, so I'm calling it a success :D.

1- jets

2- turbojets

3- nukes

NB: The front tanks don't actually feed any engines, so transfer the fuel out and into the main tanks once orbit is reached.

PS I haven't actually written a flight profile, but if anyone wants one, let me know and I will.

Have you tried the RAPIER engines? They have the same ISP as turbojets. Anyways that is a very nice craft. An orange tank isn't to easy to get to mun orbit, let alone with an SSTO. Very nice

I messed about with them for a while, but I just couldn't get decent results.

I use mechjeb (so sue me :)) for all my navigation, including having him wind down the throttle as the available air drops. I find it really useful to run the rocket engines alongside the turbojets at part throttle, especially when the twr's not so high. I couldn't do that with the Rapier engines.

I think you can achieve roughly the same result with more versatility from a turbojet and one of the little rockomax engines, which works out lighter too. I'm not entirely convinced I have that right though.

Oh, and they didn't seem to respond too well to my deeply airhoggy style.

Short answer is I just couldn't get on with them. I have to confess, I didn't try for too long.
