How to get large ship into orbit?

ok, hi

I have a huge 750 part 150 kerbal ship that i want to get into orbit. I can get it to 72k and nearly get it into orbit but its doesnt quite have enough fuel to create a stable orbit(or any orbit)

Short of admitting that a rocket this big just isnt practical or worth the lives of 200+ kerbals and counting, does anyone have any tips on getting it to go a little further. once its in a stable orbit i can dock my refuelling tanker and refuel it so how much fuel it has left isnt an issue. Afraid i havent got an image.

Any tips would be appreciated.

More boosters, and a few LV-N engines for after you left the atmosphere, it would be better if you could use LV-Ns of the ship you want in orbit (if it has them).

For every ton you add to the upper stage for orbital insertion, you usually have to add at least 6 tons or more, depending on payload fraction, to the main rocket. Your best bet is try and break the thing into several smaller sections and assemble in orbit . . . . or you could add a little bit of fuel to the upper and some SRBs.

I agree with the above. Build it in orbit. It doesn't make much sense to do this in 1 launch.

Heres a pic. i removed loads of crew modules and beefed up the launch stage and i finally got it into orbit!

It now holds a lot less than 150 kerbals so i'm going to dock more crew modules to add capacity. Thanks for all the replies.

Just out of curiosity... why do you have the air intakes in your design? just for aesthetics? If so.. you should toggle them closed to reduce the drag they produce. Just a suggestion.

This is one beefy bertha. I'd suggest splitting it into two and launching each half seperately with an immensley powerful launch stage and docking them in orbit.

I'd like to make one small recommendation. Try using the Hitchhiker Storage Containers to launch your Kerbals into space. It weighs 2.5t and carries 4 Kerbals, whereas the Mk2 Command Module only carries 3 and weighs 4t.
