Kerbol's asteroid belt, Version 0.2 Released! Perseus Fixed!

Ok, thanks! I didn't see the System file but there is one.

Anyway, it opens fine, but there were two problems both can easily be fixed. First the texture for Magic Boulder was not loading. It's because there is no map png. Take a copy of the Magic Boulder_color and rename it Magic Boulder_map That fixed it!

The second problem was that Perseus was not loading correctly (See Pictures) Delete duplicate Perseus files including bin file. That fixed it!

...*that awkward moment when you realize you completely forgot to remove a planet but yet you stared at its files for hours on end without even noticing*

And that second picture,

DEAR GOD WHAT IS THAT!

Well, that's an interesting bug... How did you get duplicate files?

Like I said Magic Boulder works fine when you add in the map file.

The other picture is Perseus before removing the duplicate files. I used the Perseus_.bin file and deleated the other. It does not open with the other one. There were either two color files or two map files.

The duplicate files were in the zip

Odd, I didn't have any duplicate files, and Perseus didn't look like that planet/monster...thing.

I downloaded version 0.2 and that is what I got.. but it was not a problem, it was an easy fix. I like it!

I've spent the last few days brainstorming (had a few brain tornadoes) ideas for a Kuiper belt to go with the asteroid belt, but I'm going to ask it again. :P

Do you guys want a Kuiper belt to go with the asteroid belt?

If it becomes too lag heavy I can make the belts seperate systems.

Yes, definitely! But I think you are right it should be a separate system. People with good computers can run them both at the same time.

Hmmm, maybe I can put some dwarf planets in there too...

*cue planet with mountains above the atmosphere*

*cue planet with low atmosphere so dense its like slamming into a wall.*

*cue planet with face in the terrain*

Lol the possibilities are endless!

Are those all doable? Sounds to good to be true :D

Alright, ATM the plan is to have maybe two or three dwarf planets, maybe fifteen or more asteroids, and maybe a moon or two in the Kuiper belt (Kerbil belt?) maybe a few comets, an Easter egg or two. :)

But that brings up a problem,

I fail miserably at coming up with names. :P

Can you guys like suggest a few names to help me?

while searching space engine for textures I happened to stumble apon the mother of all cratered planets/moons.

and then I discovered Dres orbiting it.

for some reason all the planets and moons I find in space engine barely have any craters that look craterish.

at most an asteroid field of arm meteors would be nothing more than a custom save game. i dont now enough about it but i think you should research this idea.

i hope you finish satisfied either way :]

i think someone else was making a plugin that made the ARM asteroids spawn in an asteroid belt sort of shape around Dres orbit

I MAY KNOW WHAT CAUSES THIS BUMPY PLANET BUG!

from what ive gathered so far, it appears to be that, since the planet is so small, it give the heightmap a smaller space to spread out the height of the terrain, so small hills can become MASSIVE mountains, as seen by these screenshots of Targera, one of the upcoming Keiper Belt dwarf planets:

uWFWLal.png

this is while i was trying to make it bigger, so it shows the apoapsis as inside the planet but hitting crate scaled again brought it up to actual size, but as you can see here it is very bumpy

PwQrNLE.png

and here it is after hitting the create scaled, since its bigger, the hills, mountains, etc. are smaller.

I think this can be fixed by editing the heightmap so that the terrain is flatter.

so basicly the planets too small.

Imasa Genius.

*hums*

fixing bugs all day,

why wont this planet work as I say,

why the heck is Perseus being a little terrorist again,

this planets really starting to iritate me, again,

Targera, why u no stay the way you are when I exit the game,

Berania, why do you have to be a clone of Jool,

Kernal, why is your daylight side facing 90 degrees to Kerbol?

why are you refusing my texture edits Kerbolis?

why are some of the asteroid belt planets showing default textures,

ooooooohhhh why does everything have to be a buggy mess,

why cant it just work the first time, instead of being such a mess?

whyyyyy do I somehow find this entertaining,

when it can get really iritating,

Ive already crashed Jool into the sun multiple times,

Im failing miserably at names,

I only have five planets partially done,

fun times ahead...

sums up my weekend pretty much.

As XKCD once said, a coder is a tool for converting caffeine into code.

In that case, I'm a machine capable of intaking an entire box of Diet Coke within fifteen minutes and converting lots of it into code.

Then spending the remaining 15 percent staring at a screen trying to come up with names,

Also, I added one more dwarf planet, named Chau (it was 1AM, I was tired, and I was in one of the worst brainfarts ever, gimme a break )

Also, would anyone be interested in seeing the planets AS they are developed?
