Flying blind, the ultimate KSP hard mode!

I once did a Mun landing and return using just IVA view with the Mk1 capsule, with just the tiny window to look out of, and no map view

IVA camera doesn't really make things much harder, aside from making it tough to find a nice landing spot. I just used wide landing gear and a prayer. It's the lack of map view that's the real hard mode. Without that, it's hard to even know if you're on a Mun intercept or if you'll fly right past it

Has anyone ever done an interplanetary mission with no map?

I don't play in IVA, but I would if I could get KSP to link in with this:

You can, in the process of building something similar (see the first WIP panel on the photo in the original post. Zitronen is working on an Arduino plugin that sends data to and from KSP so you can link up dials, switches, readouts etc.

I did a mission very similar to this, but with just a Mun orbit instead of landing. It took a lot of planning and calculating in Excel, but was a lot of fun to attempt. One difficulty was the stupid IVA altimeter is only good up to 100km IIRC. There's no way to tell if your altitude is 374,000m or 474,000m. The hardest part was going from a geosynchronous orbit to a Mun intercept without using the map. The one took some math...
