Where the long ladders at?

Im making a VERY large lander for Eve and I need my kerbals to scale about 70 meters of rocket. The problem is the end.. I have no ladder that can reach down past the engines and lander legs. Now.. in the past to solve this problem ive always just hacked gravity, but.. im making the effort to do a land and return so I don't want to skimp out on something so trivial. So.. out of ALL the mods.. which has the tallest ladders? Im currently using AIES. The stock ones are a bit longer, but I need a good 20 feet.

Another option for you (other than ladders, specifically, I mean) might be the JonzCo Elevator, found at this SpacePort page:

I'm not sure how far down it extends, but it does go pretty far. Anyway, it may serve your needs. You can put ladders on the side of the rocket down to the bottom, then take the platform the rest of the way down. :)

Oh, one proviso, tho, it needs to be mounted so that it travels vertically, obviously, because the platform doesn't self-level.

Why don't you construct some platform ending at the same height as your engine bells? and from there on use a normal ladder? Is the height still too much from there?

That doesn't work. When a Kerbal climbs a ladder up to a platform. the game does not let you climb up onto it and stand on it. It stays stuck on the ladder until you let go of it and fall down the ladder. You can't go up over the top of the ladder onto the platform.

You just need to add a ladder segment at an angle over the edge :

I'll try that next time. It did seem annoying the first time that the little guy can't transition from "W means climb up" to "W means walk forward" without triggering the "I am a tumbling ragdoll and therefore controls are locked out" mode in between.

That "I am a tumbling ragdoll and controls are locked out" mode is really annoying, as it triggers for things that are clearly not collisions or crashes, but then the locked out controls themselves cause the kerbal to crash.
