Help! Fraps hates me!

Hey guys, I've been very interested in making KSP videos recently, but I am facing a huuuuge problem: Fraps in being a jerk.

I managed to put one video up so far, but now that I've gotten a taste for exploding for the camera, Fraps crapped out on me. Where I used to record at about 25-35 fps, fraps now barely manages 5. I am very annoyed, but I'm frankly more confused.

I've done just about everything I know; adjusting KSP's settings, adjusting Fraps's settings, recording at different speeds and NOTHING works.

The really stupid bit? I used to run the game normally at about 80fps and record at ~30. Now, I'm running the game at 150+fps and recording at less than effing 7.

Okay, raging complete. Can anyone offer some suggestions? Alternate free recording software?

Additional info:

-I'm running the free fraps

-I have a decent Alienware desktop, I can research the specs if needed

-I'm too poor to afford anything over $20 US at the moment
