Flyaway Kerbal

Recommended Posts

I'm having trouble doing EVA's in orbit around Kerbin. I get into a circular orbit 300,000m above the planet and everything is looking good. Then I click to have Jeb do and EVA and he just flies away from the capsule and I have to redo the launch. I'm not sure whats going on. I've done EVA's before without trouble but for some reason the last 5 times I've had this problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also, before you do your EVA you can press F5 to quicksave. That way if you have a problem, you can press (and hold) F9 to quick load. (Helps a lot as you're getting experienced) At least that way you won't have to redo the whole flight.

Keep in mind that if you use quickload, you will be unable to revert the flight back to launch or VAB.

An obstruction was my first though, but the hatch was clear.

If he begins flying away, as long as it's not at incredible speed (Like the speed of light) you can press 'R' to activate his jetpack and then press 'W' to slow his speed/get back to the capsule

I did not know this, and that would definitely make all the difference and is exactly what I needed, thank you.

I also did not know about this. This will be useful for a lot of things.

Thank you all for the help.

In that case, I feel obliged to also tell you that if you press space bar (after pressing 'R'), your kerbal will align with your camera angle (with his back to you). Can be handy when you're having problems facing a ladder or other item.
