sub-assembly's -> single parts

First off I don't know if this is in the right sub-forum.

On to my question, is it possible to edit a sub-assembly into a single part that goes into the part list without the use of mods. And if it can only be done with mods could someone post a link to that mod.

You can't turn a sub-assembly into a single part with stock KSP.

This mod will "weld" parts together into a single part. It has some limitations, but it can reduce part counts.

I think Claw has the best solution. The idea of a sub-assembly is to not have to re-build a piece every time you have a new ship, so it is essentially a single part, only in the "Sub-assembly" tab and it can be disassembled.
