Anyone ever hear of Battletech?

I was going to make some witty replies to today's posts, but then I saw the T-rex post. Little arm problem finally solved! Why model mechs after a T-Rex when you can just Jurassic Park some dinosaurs and give them dinosaur size guns with riders?

Seriously?

It was a hypothetical question.

If you have something as powerful as a Tyrannosaur, with as much firepower as an entire squad of soldiers, while looking menacing enough that most enemies would be frightened at the sight of it, would it not be a valuable asset?

Don't get me wrong, I am in favor of mechanical t-rexes just as much as squishy meat filled ones. What I'd really like to see is a real dinosaur with weapons training and a rider face off against a mechanical facsimile with integrated weapons and a pilot.

I think using Godzilla movies as evidence for whatever point you choose is now valid. Also, did anyone watch the 90's animated series Exo-Squad?

Question Mark.

The device sounds as if it would be invaluable, however the actual development of such device would be impractical.

Ah who am I kidding?

This would do just fine

WOW.

Okay, how about this.......

Many believe that legs are slow....

However, there is more than one type of leg shape, and believe it or not, leg geometry is quite important.

Red Iron Crown, earlier you posted a comparison of a bike and a human running or something.

However, that was a bad comparison because of this:

You were comparing to a machine designed for speed,

to a biological "machine" that was designed for endurance.

A Tyrannosaur's leg is designed for speed somewhat, and a Cheetah's (the animal's) legs are designed for speed, although it does also flex it's body to apply more force, it is more about the leg design.

Endurance versus speed, in leg design, basically.

Kind of like treads versus wheels, they are essentially similar, but one is more suited for certain tasks than the other, and vice versa.

"Meat-based"? Is that some kind of euphemism? Because if this shark is made of the same "meat-based substance" that goes into your average Friday night kebab then I'm not sure we're talking about a level playing field. It could have all kinds of mutant superpowers.

It looks like nobody's taking you seriously anymore, KASAspace.

If you still have a desire to criticize them, consult your local college student whose major is engineering.

Doing so will provide you with lots of valuable information.

What kind of superpowers would a meat based shark possess?

None. It would be a normal shark.

That's more of a failure on their part to understand the comment.

Legs have more than ONE design, for different tasks.

I thought through this greatly, BTW.

This was a discussion about the technology, not the feasibility.

My friend, I assure you that if you go through life thinking the problem is always the other guy, you'll always be wrong.

What if the problem is the other guy? Like what if the other guy is sitting on my face and won't get off?

I don't always assume it's the other guy, but in this case it is, as it was hypothetical.

A small mech, with energy efficient legs designed for speed(a Tyrannosaur's legs are designed for speed, and it was fairly massive and managed to get some decent speeds), and construction techniques that make it very stable, and as much firepower as a squad of soldiers, with some 70mm grenade launchers, and a small mortar for limited indirect fire support. Plus a gyroscope stability system.

Now we all know your visions.

Thank you.

If so, what are your thoughts on battlemechs?

Usefulness, possibility, technology used.

If you don't know what Battletech is, look it up on Google or something. It's a tabletop boardgame that evolved into its own fictional universe with books, video games, and even a (crappy) TV series.

Play that one back in the 90's , and had love it.
