Mission Brief

Briefing: As a Space Agency, we realize that exploring other worlds is very very important. Despite our triumphs in the past, we still have much to learn. But before we can learn more about what's out there, we need to learn what's here first. We will make multiple treks and explore Kerbin much more than ever and learn everything we can about our past, present, and maybe even predict what might be coming towards us in the future.

Multiple teams of Kerbals will be tasked with landing on various places on Kerbin.

Mission Directive 01

Arctic Exploration Initiative (AEI)

Location: Northern Ice Cap

Primary Objective: Land a base in the Arctic and have a small team of Kerbals live, and conduct expiriments to learn more about the Arctic.

Secondary Objectives: Explore the ice and maybe even land a rover.

Current Tech

The Arctic Habitat Module (AHM)

The AHM is what our Kerbals will call home on this journey. It comes equipped with a Command Module, and a living module, along with a thermometer, solar arrays, and some batteries.

Arctic Mover Module (AMM)

Designed to aid in constructing the base itself. The only thing I'm not sure about is actually landing this thing.

(Any ideas? I was thinking about launching the mover in 2-3 sections on 1 rocket, fly it into orbit and assemble it and then deploy some parachutes)

For now, I'm going to work on actually making launch vehicles for the two. I'll be back in a while with an update.

Update 1: AMM Touchdown!

After around an hour of tweaking my launch vehicle (a very bulky one at that) and a few failed attempts, I've finally landed at the Arctic Cap.

Now with that over, I'm going to send my first batch of Kerbals over and let the AMM charge it's batteries.

Update 2: AHM Crew Touchdown + AMM Retrieval!

After a good long while, Jeb and Bill have finally landed. Somewhere during the journey, the batteries in the AMM had run out! So Bill had to make an EVA to go unfurl the solar arrays on the AMM. After the batteries charged, I piloted the AMM over to the landing site of the AHM and Bill and Jeb returned to the cabin for a rest.

Now on to another vehicle. The next crew will be shipped in, and another habitat will begin construction tomorrow (in-game time) and we can now use the AMM for something.
