Saving a craft will also save who's in it

Recommended Posts

Just a simple request: When you're making a craft in the VAB/SPH, and you put a certain amount of certain crew-members in it, then save, could you make it so it keeps those particular crew members in it please?

I can't count how many times I've had to revert a craft back to the hangar because I forgot something, change it, then launch it again, get it up to orbit or somewhere far, then realise it switched the crew to the default Kerbals... (for example, I've launched a Mark 1-2 Command pod up with 1 random Kerbal in it, reverted it back to the VAB because I did something wrong, and when I launch it again it will have 3 in it; when I needed the spare slots...)

I know I can just check the crew before launching, but my memory isn't the best... So when I save the craft, can it keep the crew that i put in it please? :D

Keeping that particular crew is impossible in general because when you go to launch that ship for the second time, this crew may be already in some other ship, or perhaps dead.

It might be possible to keep information about which positions are occupied and select random kerbals to the same positions, though.

On revert it should definitely restore the previous crew but, like Kasuha says, it shouldn't keep the crew on save since that crew may be somewhere else by the time the craft is loaded again. I have mixed feelings on the "loading a random Kerbal into the remembered positions", but that's mainly because I don't like the game managing my crew for me.

If you revert to launch, yes it does keep the crew; but if you revert to VAB/SPH it just changes them back to default when you launch it again. Sometimes I don't want to to carry 2 Kerbals in a Mk2 Lander Can, but if I revert the craft back to editor to change something, then launch it again, it will fill the Lander Can when I launch it... and I always forget to check (i don't know how...)

Yeah some sort of auto-fill setting would be cool; you can select which spaces of a craft it will try to fill or not, so you could have it auto fill a HSC (even when it isn't the control part) but only have a single Kerbal in a Mk1-2 Pod. I know it's simple to avoid manually, but I forget :(

Not everybody minds what kerbals are put into their ship's seats at every launch and for these it should be kept simple. I would definitely hate if the game was making me go through another screen every time I go test launch a ship in development. I would definitely appreciate if the crew button was right beside the launch button because its current placement is horribly uncomfortable (as a thing you may want to push before every launch) but I remember that when I went to suggest that, you were the one who was against.
