The Three Bridges Cup!

Recommended Posts

That is mah blimp! sorry it took so long. i had to sleep, you know?

Added you to the leaderboard, sorry for the delay there. I had to watch the video twice to make sure that the wheels weren't touching the ground at any point, but it looks like you're in the clear!

Very cute blimp, by the way. :)

Hi guys. I've wanted to be able to do this a long time ago, but I sucked at ksp at that time. Ever since I've gotten better (I think). Anyways, here is my entree (the video is also aimed to my youtube watchers who haven't visited this thread):

Time: 1:13

Extra points:

- Kerbal Aircraft, Lightclass

- Kerbal Aircraft, VTOL Class

- Pilot Precision Award

- Kerbal Ace, Second class

- I don't know about engineering precision; I have 33 parts...

I'm starting a new Leaderboard for 0.25. The top two designs rely heavily on Small Control Surfaces and borderline infinigliding, and thus wouldn't work well in 0.25. Rather than penalizing newer entries, I'll just start the leaderboard anew.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, manni01! This run looks nice... especially for a non-parachute-assisted time! There are two little things that bug me, though. I'm debating whether you should still get your achievements (I've put them up for now, but I'm seeking opinions from others on the Forum).

The first thing is that you did the run at half speed. I don't think that this is a big deal, but some other people do. This makes it possible for the challenge to be completed faster than would otherwise be possible.

The second, and more significant, problem is that you seemed to use a mod to determine your altitude above the ground. This is really the thing that bugs me. A large portion of the Cup's challenge is to be at the correct altitude going through the bridges (especially the first one), and the mod takes much of the challenge out of it... at least in my opinion.

I do want others to weigh in about this, though. In your opinion, should manni01 have to redo this challenge without the altitude-display mod and/or at actual speed?

Thanks for the opinions :)

Ohh the altitude thingy I can remove. I never really use that anyways :D

about the time thing. how do I run at normal time? I didn't change any settings

Thanks for understanding!

If you want to run KSP at normal time, make sure that there are no craft within the loading distance of your attempt, temporarily turn down graphics settings, or maybe just removing the altitude thing. You should be able to run this mission with the little timer always being in the green. The craft has few enough parts that it shouldn't tax your computer too much.

Sorry for being so finicky about the rules... :)

Ok thanks. I will post a new run on this post then

This is the same exact craft. I removed the mod and I reduced the texture quality, render quality, etc. and Its still yellow (its a 2008 lowest spec macbook so I'm sorry if that is cheating in any way :D ). It was harder because at lower quality there is no shadow that I can use as a reference point. I have no idea how I improved my time.

Very nice job! I'll update your best time. Again, sorry for being all finicky, and thanks for participating. :)

There's no problem with that. I can understand you. Also whilst designing my craft I thought you'd like that it looks very cute, because you create many little cute crafts.

Giving this challenge a bit of a bump. I completed this challenge in 1:08, which is a single second off the 0.25 record. I hope to beat this, but for the time being, it's reasonable.

I did a GusTurbo and kept the parachute open through all three bridges. I deployed the parachutes far too early when coming up to the runway. I lost time between the second and third bridge. This was not a good run, and I plan on using the same vehicle to beat the challenge in less than a minute... but for the time being:

I'll have to update the leaderboard a little later. :)

Hello everyone! Sorry for bumping this thread up from the abyssal depths of the Forum, but it's still a relevant challenge, is it not?

I'm just wondering whether completing the Cup is even possible in 1.0. After all, the drag model has changed significantly, making this challenge even harder than it was in 0.90. I had some serious difficulty with flying a small-ish plane under even the largest of the three bridges. It may be best to use VTOLs now, no?

Anyways, give the challenge a try and let me know what you think! I'm really looking forward to seeing this done again :)
