Question regarding PC specs.

Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere, couldn't find it. I'm upgrading rig. I was just curious, upon which part(s) is KSP most intensive? I really want quick load time and of course decent FPS, as current is crap with several mods, and load times are really irritating.

I believe it to be the CPU, I'm getting FX-8350 (8-core/4ghz). I'll also be running 8gb SDRAM DDR3 1600, and game will be on an SSD (Samsung's EVO 840 something, 120gb) Running on old GPU, 6850 1gb. 7870 or R9 270x to come. Though game is not graphic intense..?

I know this will be enough, but is there anywhere worth investing more into to get best KSP performance?

The funny thing about KSP is that upping the processor can sometimes actually hurt performance, with physics being single-core its actually better to maximize single core speed, like with a 4 core Intel chip, which could have better per-core performance than say an AMD 8 core.

That being said, you should look at this thread to truly determine whats in your best interest.

EDIT: AFAIK there isn't much data on how much graphics capability really helps, it only really shows up as a limiting factor on integrated graphics systems.

At 600 parts, even the i7 max, will only run at about 30 fps.

So it is single core ughh. Still I'll have a drastic performance increase over my current Phenom 64 3 core... Unfortunately the FX series 6 core has equal single core performance as it's 8 core. Though due to GPU I thinks I'm stuck with amd mobo/cpu. Will reconsider my CPU choices with this information though. Thanks for the response.

Edit: according to your link FX-8350 has bad performance (maxed on 32fps????)

I would recommend going for an Intel chip, as they have better per-core performance than AMD chips. KSP runs great on my i5-4670K.

If you're just doing it for KSP, you might be better off with an Intel chip, but the 8-core FX chips are pretty good for the price in games that support them...which will be many of them, soon.

But yes. Intel CPU with high clock speed and/or unlocked multiplier if you are into that sort of thing.
