The claw

I feel that when the update comes rolling around, I'll be using the claw to do anything BUT grab asteroids.

I'm going to place it on the underbellies of my VTOL planes, place it on base extensions, place it on space stations, place it on the walls of the VAB, make a crane, make rescue vehicles, make a grab-a-Kerbal machine, etc etc etc...

I can just see the results of attaching it to the VTOL. Accidently deploy it on the runway and get stuck unable to lift off :P Although a game of rocket darts with the VAB as the target could be fun. See if you can stick the rocket darts end to end from the launch pad.

It won't attach to objects on rails, so you can't use it on planets or moons.

But...Gilly anchor? :(

Hmm... that's interesting. Looks like you'll have to try/stick with the KAS grapple. It sticks to anything.

I can't look at this thread title without thinking "you saved our lives, we are eternally grateful".

Ill be making asteroid space stations by having double ended claws connect asteroids together, then make an entire network of connected asteroids around kerbin and have my space station parts connected to the asteroids themselves.

You'll still run into the 2.5k limit if you ment to try and make a conected ring of the things (asside from the whole issue of how long it would take to capture that many asteroids) My plan atm is to capture a D or E class into a desierable orbit and clamp a bunch of claw/clampotron pairs and use that as a station core. The thing that bugs me the most about stations is the wobble and tilt that happens right after docking. With a 2000k + core no reasonably sized ship is going to move that puppie at all, or at least it wont knock it out of alignment before I can do a quick timewarp to lock the rotation back down. I've done similar things with a cluster of fueltanks as the centerpiece of the station (that I painstakingly refilled) to damp down the docking forces but the number of parts required to reach those tonages really kills performace around the station.

I think that the claw's pivot ability along with the fact that it keeps the whole thing as one ship will lead to it becoming a helicopter rotor bearing in many uses.

And it shall be named... the Clawcopter!:D

All Aliens: [pointing up] The clawwwwwwwww!

Alien #1: The claw is our master.

Alien #2: The claw chooses who will go and who will stay.

Woody: This is ludicrous...

This is the first thing I thought after reading this thread.

I like gyro-copter idea, I think this could work if you align rotor part right, otherwise it would cause terrible vibrations.
