Creating Tunguska Events

Asteroids + Deadly Re-entry mod = Tuguska Event

If asteroids can become 'ships' when docked, then they are essentially just parts floating in space. So we should be able to assign whatever traits we want via cfg or savegame files. So the deadly rentry mod should allow them to take heat damage and explode like anything else.

No shockwave and no destruction of any kind in the surface (Trees won't fall down). There's no much reason to cause or prevent an asteroid collision.

While persistent craters and modifiable ground scatter would be neat, allowing realistic effects from impacts and in-atmosphere explosions, they're not really important to the game.

Well the question of if they are important to the game is not nearly as good of a question as, "Are they within the realm of possibility of a mod?"

On the one hand, I get that, but on the other hand, they add so much to the sense of immersion.

I remember when I first played Grand Prix Legends, and of course, spun off course somewhere, destroyed my car (GPL is the KSP of auto racing?) ... I came back, tooled around .. and when I came back on lap two, saw my own skid marks tailing off the track towards the barriers I'd crashed into.

Just a simple "persistent" texture, persistent for the session, with some limited number kinda like debris .. and it made a huge impact in the "feeling" of the game.

I think this is the sort of thing that would have the same feeling: I've just gone from exploring the world to modifying the world..

didn't Fractal_UK work to make explosion happen with his Antimatter containers which could possibly be used for this (i lack a picture to show and i don't use interstellar so i am not sure if he actually implemented it)
