Asteroid gravity

Recommended Posts

has anyone played space engineers ? Well if you did there is a thing, a block that "creates" or rather generates gravity so you can walk on your ship without using the jetpack. I think it would be a great mod for bases floating in space or maybe bases on planets with a very low gravity.

I'm currently working on a project for Mar's moon Deimos which has approximately .003 m/s^2 of gravity. To get a better idea of what that was like I tweaked the gravity on Bop using hyperedit to about that value. It's essentially 0g. Things will get to the ground if you wait for a few hours if they started with zero vertical velocity but at that point it's not fun anymore, it's boring. Having 0g for these asteroids makes sense physically and from a gameplay perspective

Saying you want gravity is not really what you want.

I added gravity to my larger asteroids and it doesn't work so well. You cant really land or walk on them, time warp breaks down and there is no SOI.

What people really want is to land and walk around on the asteroids, if it has significant gravity or its own soi is a moot point. Beyond that people want to add their own large bodies to the solar system, planet factory style but supported by the stock game. That is what your really asking for, but your going to have to wait a loooooooooooooong time for that one...

First of all I wanted to thank everyone for voicing there opinion, I basically made this thread just to attract someone like this guys opinion. I understand that the mass of the asteroid would be much to small for walking on let alone trying a successful eva for some reason I just want my Kerbals to face toward the center of mass for the asteroid. If squad implemented a magnetic system, which is a little less realistic, but would make asteroids functional in a way a base could be implemented with the symmetry of low gravity.

Like someone said right after that post the eva controls bother me in a way that I want stuff like relative velocity and a view system that supports walking vertically to the center of mass of an object.

Excuse the original post as I made my intentions not as clear, glad the patch is coming out very soon!
