[XICO] Hel Class LRM Cruiser (Naval-Sea)

Recommended Posts

Greetings!

Please enjoy the debut of the newest ship of the line, the Hel Class Long-Range Missile Cruiser! This vessel comes equipped with long-range missiles for smashing targets at long range. It has a small interior with crew quarters and access to fuel sections. Kerbals can expect ordinance, fuel tanks, and move to and from their quarters. Fair warning, the craft is something like 350 or so parts...

(THANK YOU MR. ROCKET FOR HELPING ME FIX THE IMGUR ISSUE. I TOTALLY GET IT NOW :P)

[Weapons]

LRM-10 Storm - A long-range missile with quite a punch. It has an achieved range of 75km, though with better flying it can probably go further.

- Press Abort to toggle off vessel engines.

- Make sure ASAS is on (it should always be on anyway)

- Throttle up to your liking, at least 1/4.

- Press Space Bar to fire a missile.

- Press ] to switch to the missile.

- Control the missile like any other rocket. Guide it to glory!

SRM-1 Clash - A short-range deck rocket. Activate in order, 1-4. These have a range of about 500m.

[Navigation]

- Throttle up to move the ship at its current heading. You can throttle as much as you want to spool the jet engines up, but be wary of exceeding 17 m/s while in the water. This has been tested as potentially hazardous. You can sometimes cruise at pretty high speeds, such as 20+m/s, but BE WARNED that any changes in heading at this speed will likely result in the ship being torn asunder.

- The Bridge offers a fun view while sailing, but the probe just below it can be used via Right-Click--> Control From Here to set the navball at the horizon and give a better direct heading. Pressing C will get you back to that nice view, but you will need to control from the probe core below the Bridge again afterward.

-As far as getting this baby into the water, HyperEdit is great for this. However, if you feel you are somehow violating your man/womanhood by using HyperEdit to eliminate erroneous tedium, attach large radial decouplers to the sides and attach the largest wheels to these. You should be using at least 3 pairs. DO NOT attach wheels underneath the ship; decoupling them under the ship while in the water will cause great instability and the ship will likely destabilized and potentially capsize.

[DISCLAIMER]

The craft file I provided is fully stock. When I play with this craft, however, I generally have "Kerbal Engineer" attached for stats and some KerbPaint done on the ship. I do not personally consider these to make the craft "Non-Stock" except in the purist sense. These things enhance KSP for me in a way that I think should already be provided. Again, the craft file provided is fully stock, so enjoy!

Anticipate a short video coming soon to the "Live From Mission Control!" section! :)

Put this [imgur]RtQ8m[/imgur (then just add a bracket to the end :)

That's a really cool ship, i've never been able to get anything to float with KSP water physics, especially with missles :P

Thank you SO MUCH Mr. Rocket! I understand the syntax and method now. A big help!

I'm glad you like the ship. I'm working on a whole set of them. I have a frigate finished, two variants I need to distinguish. I have a carrier design, which this cruiser took a chunk out of, but sadly, that thing is too many parts and STILL not big enough (600...). I'm having a lot of fun creating actual usable spaces on the ships...giving me ideas for space vessels and stations later.
