Non destructive save loading

Recommended Posts

Currently, if a part is missing/corrupted for any reason and you load your save, any craft with that part are deleted instantly and you are told post deletion.

I suggest a change where you tell KSP you want to load a save, it loads the file and checks to see what parts are needed for the craft in it. If all the parts are in the parts list then all goes as normal but if any parts are missing then a window pops up and a list of craft that will be deleted is shown to the user (along with exactly which parts are missing) who can then choose whether to load or cancel. This could be done quite quickly as part of the load menu before the space center is loaded.

Any other way is fine as long as the user gets a choice before any deleting goes on.

Why not also switch the missing part(s) by a dummy one ? (nodes are known in craft file), it could be kind of procedural tubes connecting every nodes. It will allow to add missing mod/part without loosing a craft (which could be an entire space station built in months cause of docking ships).

I like ths idea, surface attached items with no child object could just be deleted
