Checking asteroid trajectory before encounter

Recommended Posts

Is there a way I can check an asteroid's approach to kerbin before time-warping it into my SOI, or do I have to wait to see the path? It doesn't seem to tell me the distance to approach or anything on the map before I get it in the SOI. Maybe I'm not recalling correctly but I thought I saw the twitch players just looking at various impacts and seeing what was good before warping.

Also on an unrelated note I don't know how to get an avatar. I figure I have to create a gallery but it seems to be bugged in that it won't let me upload anything whether I use safari, firefox or chrome.

There are 2 ways you can see an asteroid's REAL path.

1: Target it with a ship. But unless you're tracking this roid, its track will disappear again (as might the roid itself) as soon as you turn your back on it.

2. Track it with the Tracking Center. Select it in there, then hit the track button down in the lower left corner of the screen. Now its path will always show, although it probably won't display right unless you're also targeting it.

NOTE: Resist the urge to track every roid or you'll clog up space with their tracks. If after tracking a roid you decide you don't care about it, untrack it in the Tracking Center (X button)

AS to avatars, I think you either upload it from your computer directly into the avatar space in your forum profile, or put it on another site first like Imgur or Flickr. Either way, the pic must meet size/shape requirements shown on your profile page.

I've actually changed the conics_mode option in settins.cfg to 1 which allows you to see the path it'll take in the local frame of reference and using that with tab while tracking an asteroid allows you to watch the path by Kerbin

What the hell, I swear the last time I tried, a few weeks ago, this was totally different. It had me creating a gallery for profile graphics or something…. I don't know what I was smoking.
