How to add Permadeath to your save file (Persistence)

Hello everyone.

Now that .23.5 is out and a lot of People are starting new savegames, I wanted to leave this hear.

I was always wondering why there is a "Lost"-Tab in the Astronaout Complex if Kerbals Respawn after a while if they died.

So I wanted to add Permadeath to my new Savegame to make it a little bit more thrilling.

Unfortunately it was quite hard to find informations on how to do that, what is why I am posting this here.

What it will do:

Kerbals that achieve the goal of a firey, squishy or puffy death won't rise out of their graves anymore.

They will only show up in the "Lost"-Tab forever but do not respawn.

This Setting is only affecting the Savegame you edited it to, other savegames are still "Vanilla".

What you have to do:

Look up your Save-File in your KSP-Folder.

Inside of it, there is File called Persistence.cfg (If I recall correctly)

Open this file with your Editor/Notepad (If you are using a Windows-PC)

Press CTRL-F to search for entries and look for "MissingCrewRespawn = True"

Change this into "MissingCrewRespawn = False"

And you are set.

Hope you enjoy the thrill. :)

Thanks for this! I didn't realise this was off by default. I've only lost Jeb and Bob on my first lunar landing...but they came back!

I thought there was something magic about the orange trio...

Hello everyone.

"Persistence.SFS" and "Quicksave.SFS" are the two savegame files. You can edit just Persistence, as long as you don't hit F9 after loading into the game (without F5 first). ;)

There's "Dead" and "Missing in action" what is the difference?

How much the KSC has to pay out to kerbal's family. That and if their just "Missing in Action" I can't be sued for wrongful death which lets me take dangerous and unsafe liberties with rocket design.
