Mun Runner IV (Stock)

Recommended Posts

This is my first Mun-capable ship, and the 4th in the Mun Runner series. The folks on r/KerbalSpaceProgram got me into building a stock Mun rocket and deserve a fair bit of credit.

Pictures of this ship flying to, and landing on, the Mun: http://imgur.com/a/kEMLW

A note on landing: after the chute opens at ~500m, keep firing the RCS rockets until you land, or the whole thing gets destroyed on impact. Even with the retros, the CM will be the only thing that survives if you touch down on land (I don\'t know about water).

Welcome to the Forums.

A nice little ship, a few pointers to help develop MK-V.

-I found it wobbled alot, partly with the initial stage so far down the craft.

-Its always best to achieve 100+M/s As Soon As Possible, so invest in some SRB\'s to aid the First stage.

-Be sure to put a 1 Green Winglet (AV-T!) with every SRB to help control its heat output.

-EVERY Single Part has weight, So Less Parts is More Craft.

Be sure to visit: For some great Stock Craft Designs.

Nice flight, though a pointer once in munar orbit, wait till you\'re on the darkside then retro-burn just until until the Pe reaches the surface of the lightside. Wait till you reach the light side and at about 5-10km and use maximum thrust to cancel out your lateral velocity, and then bring it down like you did. That should save fuel as you spend much less time in vertical fall and not using fuel during the 1,000km drop you did.

Other than that nice design and good flight.
