Custom Tech Nodes

I think everyone can agree, adding a simple way to add custom tech nodes would be a GREAT boon to the modding community.

Perhaps have it so you can add prerequisite techs, icon, description, and cost, and KSP itself will handle where to place them.

Can't you already do that as a modder? KSPI has a custom tech tree I believe.

What's actually there is the ability to rearrange the tech tree, and a few nodes that aren't used in stock KSP. The devs have said that they're not against having the ability to create custom tech nodes, they just didn't want to try throwing them in until they had a good handle on the tech tree and how to program it.

Not strictly true -- I've been playing around with a tech tree with added nodes on my local machine. Nowhere near release-quality yet, but its definitely do-able.

The problem is that KSPI uses an external plugin to change the tech tree, and the treeloader plugin overrides the tech tree assignments that are in the CFG for each part, meaning if the part isn't placed into the CFG created by treeloader, even if it has the TechRequired set up properly it will not show up

Viperfan, what? I've been using treeloader for my own custom tech-tree .cfg, and that's not my experience at all. The treeloader overrides the TechRequired for any parts specified in the .cfg, but when I add a new mod, it shows up in my tree at the TechRequired location. I don't know if there's a difference between my .cfg and KSPI's, though, as I've not tried Interstellar.
