KSP Contracting! A fun series/game in which you build the craft!

Hi space fans,

Opposite my difficulty and realism focused series 'KSP to Mars' I'm now starting a slightly more whimsical series that's set in full stock KSP and will focus on getting science and playing with the new asteroids and building multi-asteroid space structures with them protecting kerbin from impactors. There's a few rules and twists:

Rules:

-Only 10 astronauts, ever. If they all die, that's it. Game over. If they're all lost, robotic rescue missions remain an option.

-Only one launch every 30 (kerbal) days

-One new (random) asteroid tracked per episode. Asteroids are never untracked.

Twists:

-You build the ships! Think of a mission or thing you'd like to see and build it. I'll use it in the next episode.

-I make the persistent.sfs available after every episode. Feel free to play in it (it should become interesting), do stuff to it in your own videos or anything of the sort.

I'm keeping it all stock, with a possible exception for mods that don't introduce or modify parts. Idea is to keep the save file accessible to everyone.

I'm thinking that apart from some light hearted fun this can be a nice way for fellow youtubers to get some cross exposure going in a shared universe (ie. build a ship, make a video telling your viewers you're playing my game and I reference the builders channel when I fly the ship). That said, non-youtubers (I mean, lovely awesome viewers!) are more than welcome to play also.

Share your craft on DropBox, pastebin or your service of choice, alternatively just email it to me at mail@donlorenzo.eu

The persistence.sfs will be kept up to date under this link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/sewacnz5a3uwcc6/persistent.sfs

I will update the file, not the link so if for some reason you want to keep older copies of the save, keep them yourself!

The first episode is uploading as we speak, I hope some of you will play; I'm looking forward to your submissions!

Cheers,

DonLorenzo

A bit sooner than expected; here's episode 2! There's some flying, some doom and some science all included in this episode :)

I have two submissions for the next episode already, if there's time I'll use them both or perhaps keep one in reserve. Keep the submissions coming in the meantime! Enjoy!

Awesome, I'll email my submission, :confused:

Huh what's this doing here?...

Dear Siggas Kerman,

Your recent results in the standard (but super easy) test of intelligence have astounded us.

They have nonetheless encouraged us to build a spacecraft with an integrated fail-proof system for individuals with, erm.. poor cognitive skills.

You are expected to test run 'this baby'.

We would also appreciate any of the following:

Mun-Goo x2;

Munar ground sample;

Munar reports (Crew and EVA; near, orbit and surface)

Intact Capsule & Science lab unit

Regards,

Magnus von Kerman

Rockomax Conglomerate co-CEO

P.S:

Our engineers have informed us that should the chute fail to deploy (oh boy), the craft & the "SC-9001 Science JR" unit should be able to withstand

an impact below 80 m/s;

Should the impact velocity be any higher we regret to inform you that we will not be legally accountable should any damage to the "Munar3xploder" space rocket or personnel.

P.P.S:

Although the name of the craft may be suggestive of crashing into the Mun, please refrain from doing so.

Thanks for the video! Rockomax Conglomerate isn't what it used to be, sorry about that. :sealed:

Dear Siggas Kerman,

Congratulations on your recent success, we will eagerly test the samples provided although

We do believe there might have been a mix-up with the ground sample you have sent us;

There are what appears to be crickets (We have named those Mun-crickets) and grass blades along with the collected rocks.

We would appreciate a confirmation that the sample did in fact come from the Mun, we have prepared a scientific journal describing the your amazing feats and findings and are ready to publish it!

(3 million copies to be given out to sister Kerbal Space Programs engineers and scientists)

We are quite saddened by the loss of our craft and will opt for a more apt test pilot in the future.

Thank you for your services.

Regards,

Dopurak Kerman

Rockomax Conglomerate Head Janitor

P.S: We also want to congratulate you on being the first volunteer for an Asteroid Course redirection mission.

We have been told you were adamant in the face of danger even when facing certain death!

P.S.S: Please pass the following message to your collegue Mitkin Kerman as we have run out of stamps (BIG parcel coming)

//

Dear Mitkin Kerman,

Congratulations on your near perfect score in the Academy's latest intelligence test.

We would like to give you the privilege of being the first Kerbonaut to try out the most luxurious and

sumptuous rocket ever designed by our engineers.

We also would like to inform you that the rumors spread by your fellow Kerbonaut Siggas Kerman

are all ill-founded and cannot be backed up by any evidence.

Thank you for your time.

Best Regards,

Magnus von Kerman

Crafts submissions as well as science points are rolling in! Thanks everyone that sent me some stuff, the garage is getting nicely stocked which should ensure many more episodes! For now here's number 4 with the Green Spotted Jaguar, go watch it land on the moon, it's quite something!

We have some wings, jet engines and landing gear. Awesome! It's flying time!

Let me present the Chimera:

NlXoZ6T.png

Kerbal Kats is calling her Chimera because she is part plane and part rocket. She takes off horizontally like a plane, turns into a rocket in the upper atmosphere and the cockpit and science bays land on parachutes. Once in orbit you have roughly 4000m/s delta-v to play with. The Chimera's purpose is to intercept an asteroid for science and to return to Kerbin safely. She can however fly just like a plane for a while.

I hope you can use her, Don.

Flight profile:

Take off, fly almost straight up (70° up), stage at 20km height (transforms the Chimera into a rocket) and reach orbit as with a regular rocket.

Special features:

The Chimera features a lot of lights so we can see something on Youtube. Please use them Don! :wink:

This drive wasn't really meant for the joint duna mission. So no clue whether it will make it. Refueling definitely seems a necessity. You could use the red lotus for that. The duna lander is highly dependant on SAs so I added little RCS capability. Anyway, good flying! The ship is looking good, especially considering it was made with independently made parts!

We shall see how far it goes, as it's just been launched!

As a sneak peek; in the next episode turbojets get unlocked and the persistence file is already up! So if you want you can start designing mad planes already :)
