I'm basically using MechJeb most of the time for most of my KSP activities.

When I was first playing KSP, I used MJ too. I learned how to establish an orbit, land, dock, rendezvous, etc by watching MJ do it.

I still use it though.

If you are really having trouble getting into Kerbin orbit, you can watch one of Scott Manley's very informative videos on the YouTube. They range from building a ship to landing on a planet. Have fun!
