How To Go To The North Pole

Recommended Posts

Not exactly

You may have to tilt your rocket slightly to the northwest when reaching 10km because the atmosphere is dragging you along with the Rotation of the planet.

You will see what I mean when you Change to Orbit-Speed while ascending. Your Prograde-Marker (The Marker for the direction your Craft is heading) will Point somewhat to the east because the planet is rotating that way.

Either that or write a letter to the president of a certain seasonal delivery system and ask him for a lift. Of course, that won't work so well in April.

Do you want to land there, or are you just looking for a polar orbit?

Landing in the arctic is easy enough. Landing at precisely Lat 0, not so easy.

Depends on if you're driving, flying, or going orbital. And what you want to do along the way.

If you want to straight shot up there with an orbital/suborbital rocket, seitch the Navball to "orbit" sooner. Because of planetary rotation, your rocket will actually be heading slightly east and requires some westerly heading correction.

If you are driving or flying, heading toward the red North line will get you there.

Actually, in either case heading toward the South line will too, for that matter. Just takes a little longer. :D

Edit: darn ninjas...

Find the red N line on the navball and point towards it. Due north is where the Orange and blue halves meet and the red line intersects. If you launch that direction you can get a good start on a polar orbit. Once you get into space it shouldn't take too much to fix your inclination
