maneuver node features in 23.5

Recommended Posts

Maneuver nodes have been upgraded, what new features are there?

I noticed I can hover over a vector and use scroll wheel to adjust it (idk if this is new). Is it possible to adjust node location in similar fashion? I thought I could hover over the center of the node and scroll to move itback or forth, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

When having placed more than one maneuver node on a trajectory, how can I see the delta v of each maneuver? Meter on the navball shows only one maneuver, can I change which?

Once I've passed a node, two small icons appear at it's bottom; the right hand side one appears to move the node one orbit ahead, the other seems to do nothing. How are there supposed to be used?

Yes, the scroll wheel adjust is new. If there's a way to adjust the position, I don't know what it is.

You can see the delta-V of any closed maneuver node by mousing over it. This is not a new feature, but a lot of people don't know about it.

The two small icons (which appear any time you right-click on a node, not just after you've passed it) are to move the node ahead or behind by one full orbit. The main use I can think of is rendezvous, orbital transfers, or other maneuvers where timing is important. In the old KSP, you had to wait until the last orbit before a burn to set up a maneuver node, which was kind of annoying.

The third new feature isn't a maneuver node upgrade, per se, but that's when you'll normally be using it. If you click on any planet's orbit you'll get a new option, "Focus View". This will center the map on that planet and show you your trajectory (with and without maneuver nodes) relative to that planet's SoI. Very useful for planning gravity assists, dodging moons, getting a specific inclination, etc.

Hope this helps!

Another useful feature is the ability to view maneuver nodes in the Tracking Station. Just target the craft with the corresponding maneuver node in the tracking station and the press TAB until the camera focuses on the node. Now you can take advantage of full time-warp while keeping an eye on the node's date at the same time.

Thanks for the responses, very useful information.

I really hope Squad would release better info on these features as they're implemented, if there have been posts from them about how to use these features I haven't seen them :/

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
