Another Feature most likely lost to time and space.

Recommended Posts

Hi guys I posted this hint/ feature on the Tips and tricks thread as well but figured that this was so good it needed to be heard by more then just the ones that look there.

SO Here you go

By using the trim function (ALT+W,A,S,or D) and setting pitch down trim(W)[transition forward trim in docking mode] will let you set up something like cruse control on rovers, or in other words NO MORE HOLDING DOWN W on long trips!, I do thou recommend that you use this in docking mode because other wise when you hit a jump....well you get the picture :)

HAPPY ROVING!

EDIT: just In case you don't know how to reset trim/ Alt + X will set all trim to 0.....Just being throe.

Does this actually work in practice? My rovers tend to skid out of control (I swear the Mun is made of green motor oil) if I'm not constantly adjusting thrust, braking, and steering non-stop.

This sounds more like an issue with Rover design (And if you are talking about green you might mean Minmus, which means lower gravity)

It was a play on "the Moon is made of green cheese". I've never tried using a rover on Minmus, especially since jetpacks are much faster there.

I dont see why not, just turn on docking mode and SAS and as long as the terrain is not stupidly rocky and what not it will work, I was using it for a rover trip to KSC 2 before my mom took my flash drive :(

ha it really is satisfying when you can sit back and watch your rover drive its self with 4X physics warp on :)
