Kerbal Dynamics Trebuchet

Recommended Posts

Having reviewed some old data, the Boffs have come up with this one: build a trebuchet designed to launch a Kerbal.

This is a trebuchet:

This is NOT a trebuchet:

Neither is this:

Now that's out of the way as definitions go; it is entirely possible to build a pivot without using a rotatron (see first pic which uses basically stock parts).

THE RULES:

- NO welding, unbreakable joints, or any other anti-vehicle-shattering mod.

- NO infinite fuel or other exploits.

- No FAR or procedural fairings.

- The trebuchet superstructure may not leave the ground or traverse any part of the surface at any time.

- The trebuchet must start and finish from the same spot on the West end of the runway.

- The payload *may not* possess any sort of propulsion or active aerodynamic control surface. Any aerodynamics *must* be completely static.

- SAS/ASAS/MechJeb permitted.

- The trebuchet and the payload don't have to stop safely, HOWEVER:

- The Kerbal MUST survive.

Scoring is for distance from the West end of the runway.

I don't have a video of this on the runway at KSC, but it does work there... but here's me using one on the Mun (Skip to 5:28 for Trebuchet Action):

There's a craft file for it in the Youtube description.
