KSP's Orbits : I don't even.

Recommended Posts

ok : I have 450h+ on KSP, I saw many weird stuff and orbital stuff on this game, but this time, I don't get it

I launched a ship to Eeloo, using a Mün gravity assist : "Kerbin escape : 2d blah blah"

I warp to the escape, and then when I reach it, "changing" SOI :

On Kerbin Hyperbole again, this is NOT supposed to happen : all is wrong in those numbers

I Quick-loaded backward but it will come back I guess : any idea ?

A couple of questions :

1. Have you tried a 50x warp for about 30 seconds to see if trajectory changes again to expected values?

2. Is Kerbal Alarm Clock up to date?

I don't think chatterer causes any problems with patched conics but I see some other mods that I don't know about. Kerbal Alarm Clock can cause issues especially if it's an old version. You may want to disable KAC and the other mods besides chatterer to see if the issue persists.

This happens when you are leaving the SOI at very small speed, on an orbit which is still elliptic and has apoapsis barely behind the SOI boundary. The SOI boundary is a fuzzy region, parts of the game recognize it at slightly different place than other parts of the game and while you're inside that region your orbit is displayed in a very weird way.

If you wait a while till your ship exits that region, things get to normal. But your resulting orbit may get slightly affected.

I regularly see "phantom" orbits popping up when going through SOI changes - though I've never seen one quite that weird. Try just sticking with it, staying at 1x warp, and with any luck after a minute or two it will return to showing your correct orbit.
