[0.25/0.90] Better Atmospheres [V5 - June 14th, 2014]

I hope this doesn't come off as rude or anything, but is there a possibility that we could get a version that doesn't require the asteroids, terraforming, and texture replacer mods? I think the mod looks great, but it's so crazy with memory that running the 32 bit version of KSP it just simply locks up. I'd love to try the mod, and I can only speak for my self when I say this, but I really don't want to be required to install a bunch of mods I don't intend to use at all.

Summary: I think it looks fantastic, but I really just want the effects without the other addons.

The asteroids, terraforming, and texture replacer mods don't take up barely any space at all. Each of those downloads is simply a configuration file, but you need to download them separately because then thesonicgalaxy doesn't have to worry about re-distributing other people's mods.

But the asteroids aren't needed in the pack - without them, you simply won't get asteroids orbiting around Jool. I decided not to install Custom Asteroids because it conflicts with MaximumWarp, and I can't live without MaximumWarp! The Terraforming plugin is needed for clouds from space, I believe, and the Texture Replacer plugin is used for something as well (not sure what). But when you download Texture Replacer, you are only downloading the plugin, not a bunch of textures, so the increase in RAM will be minimal (if any).

The actual mod itself was like 150 MB (the HD version, that is), so that isn't too much extra memory you have to load, in my opinion - but it could be enough to hit the memory limit on a KSP install already filled with mods.

It is because you have more than 1 config file in the bolderco/clouds folder.

Yep, that was it. Kerbin isn't cloning it's own vapour-fluff-army any more.

Anyway, here are some glorious pictures from Jool:

And an, umm, not so glorious one...

Yeah, this is a bit odd

That's a problem I know about, and I thought i fixed it. Guess it didn't save. I'll update the config in the download.

That said, I don't know if UAE works on a Mac. If it doesn't, then yes, you can't change the solar flare.

I may have found a way to install the sunflare on a mac (requires VMWare fusion, or something similar (only tested with VMWare)), if anyone wants to know how...

Wow, really amazing :)

But, how much RAM does it use? I'm running ksp at 2.8 GB on startup...

And, do the asteroids slow down the game? It looks like really interesting :)

Good job on this amazing plugin, looks almost like space engine :)

Can someone post/send/provide a link to an image of what it should look like with the flare installed? I'm not entirely sure if I installed it right, and it would be helpful to have an image of what it should look like.

Edit: Okay, I don't have it. I'll install a fresh sharedassets10 and try again...

Edit Edit: Still not working. It is white when viewed up close, but yellow anywhere else...

Edit Edit Edit: Works now! http://imgur.com/LRXhEh5

When using Better Atmospheres v4 (and a veritable stew of other mods) I saw that Mun had a blanket-like atmosphere, which is absent when I use v5.

Other information:

-My only other mod is the 64-bit hack

-I run 64-bit Windows 7 with ample computing power

Can I retrieve my Munar atmosphere, and if I can, then how?

Wait so it is stable with the 64 bit workaround? Dind't tried it myself yet but heard it has problems with EVE

EVE never had a problem on the 64 bit workaround for me. I don't actually know why people have any problem with it. I guess that it is some sort of random hardware related issue, or something. As I said, for me it works fine.

Wait there is a 64bit KSP O.O? Where? Does it work with all mods? BAv5 is too memory intensive, think im going to have to go back v4, yes I have ATM. What would happen if I only used the v5 without the others?

Yep, there is a workaround for getting KSP to run in 64 bit on windows. Here is the forum thread that explains it. For me none of the mods I use have caused issues I could reproduce in any way. Any bugs and glitches I had seemed to randomly happen, and haven't happened again. You can check out the latest few episodes of my KSP let's play to have a look at how well it runs. That "athmosphere" Mun had in V4 was removed intentionally, I think. It looked really weird and unrealistic, so I guess that's why it's gone now.

I am thoroughly impressed by this latest update. Jool doesn't look cartoony anymore first off! :D A better Kerbol! Lens Flares! Aurorae! Custom Asteroid Mod Stuff with Jool's rings containing Asteroids! :) Love it. I don't honestly care that there is 4 mods you have to download if I get THIS beauty. Nice trailer song btw.

Im a big fan of this mod, dont get me wrong, But our sun is actually yellow when viewed from space.

Can you direct me to your source?

Jool actually looks worse in this update.

If you're going to give me feedback, actually tell me how to improve please. :T

Artistically I actually really liked the look of the Mun in V4. I thought it looked sleek and minimal. However, I think it only looked good artistically, and I agree it wasn't very realistic. Good for screenshots though :D

Also, Jool's rings don't wobble; has that been fixed since last time it was brought up? I've only just installed KittopiaTech for this, so perhaps the settings aren't right to induce inclination?

This is just a small idea I've had; Would it be possible to permanently orientate them towards the sun, to slow the wobble down so much that the rings constantly face the sun? Just throwing a thought out.

I have to say this pack is stunning. The only place that I feel needs work is Laythe. I like it, but I don't like the white clouds at the top (can they be removed?) and I think it needs to be less vivid a blue (I personally think a more ominous, dark blue would work. Not too dark, but not as light as it currently is). The blue currently used is somewhat... luminescent looking. I do like how you can't really see the ground properly; for me it ensures the use of Scansat, and actually gives me a reason to use it.

Do you also believe that the sun revolves around the earth?

Had some problems with the sun flare, but that's fixed now and looks amazing! Is the sun supposed to be a plain white ball close up? Perhaps it's because I'm viewing from from the tracking centre (not that I really mind, just wondering). I'll check in the actual game.

yes our sun is actually white the atmosphere makes it look yellow.

Well the sun is technically yellow since it's a G-class star, but it looks white to us since it's close to being a black body.

Well if you want to get technical about it the sun is actually all colors mixed together making it white, but it's highest visible output is really green.

Anyways great job I love V5!!!
