Microphone can't pick up voice when engines are firing.

Recommended Posts

So I am a bit troubled, because I have videos to record and I have a microphone that can't pick up my voice. I'm using the Red Samurai Xbox360 headset, which works great in every area except for the title issue. I have tried turning down the spacecraft noise in the settings menu, and tried raising and lowering the entire game volume.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

You could try doing commentary during post production. I know that's what Scott Manley does.

I've considered this, but I've already basically stuck myself into doing it live -_- so that might be out of the question, unfortunately.

I turn ship.sounds way down in the options

This I've actually already tried to no avail :(

Thanks for the responses!

I have no way of testing this, but here's an idea.

Go into the part.cfg files for the engines you're using. Look for this block.

// --- Sound FX definition ---

sound_vent_medium = engage
sound_rocket_hard = running
sound_vent_soft = disengage
sound_explosion_low = flameout

You can try commenting out the sounds by adding // in front of each line like so:

// --- Sound FX definition ---

// sound_vent_medium = engage
// sound_rocket_hard = running
// sound_vent_soft = disengage
// sound_explosion_low = flameout

When I do this, KSP will load the files just fine and the engines are silent. Hopefully that will allow your microphone to work.
