If you want to build an Apollo alike craft this thread is for you. It's an older, but nontheless actual one. You can observe different soloutions for the same problem and most important, post your results.

Install only the mods - if running out of memory - you really need for your goal. E.g. Kethane if you want to simulate a newer goal of NASA to produce the needed fuel for the return trip on site (E.g. Mars Direct).

As for the building some advises:

  • All things you don't want to be touched during the mission place in the last stage you never need. Create with the +-sign a new one, place all you want in the top. Then place the chutes e.g. in the newly created stage.
You can create a second one below the last stage for your lander, witch can be operated by action-groups.
  • You will develop your own system in regard of the action-groups, witch come in handy to operate the LES-System and chutes for example (otherwise you have to stage constantly until you reach your chutes).
One thing is important. If you have placed parts in the symmetry mode and also mapped them to an action-group: By moving them again you have to redo the action-group, otherwise only the part will react in the action-group you directly have placed!
  • Strut your ship - regardless if it's a historical rebuild or not.
The first from KSP detected command-pod is the part, witch KSP want's to point in the desired direction. Witch means: The engines below are trying to move the command-pod to this direction witch is resulting in wobbeling of your rocket, because they use their full gimbal-range constantly.
You can - of course - put the outer engines in an action-group witch disables their gimbaling. This results in a slower correction, but less wobbeling and therefore a more controllable flight.

I got a few new questions.

How to make MechJeb work properly with Raster Prop Monitors mod?

I have both of them installed in the game and placed on the command pod I am sitting in, and when I hit the autopilot key, I see a blank page with a single prompt saying 'No autopilot software installed'.

What can I do with that?

The ScanSat page says 'No satellite connection', but I can not check if that is correct as I have no mapping satellites in orbit yet.

If I install KSI MFD pack I get a 'MOD' menu with pages for ScanSat and SASS, but both are completely blank.

How to make the monitors display, for example, the docking camera information or some other third party mods stuff, much like it is made with the ALCOR capsule?

And another one question, how to make B9 Aerospace mod work with the latest version 0.23.5?

I know there is a fix for that, but how to install it properly?

I have managed to make the game load with the mod installed, but some parts still make the whole thing crash to desktop.

P.S

By the way, who knows what pod is used as a cone shape command module on the ALCOR capsule screenshots?
