What's going on with my decouplers.

Recommended Posts

:(

Stage 6 is 8x S3 KS25 x4's attached to a single 14400 tank.

Stage 5 is the TR-38-D Seperators.

Stage 4 is 8x KR2L.

Launch, all is well.

Hit the space bar when stage 6 runs out of fuel. Only one of the decouplers fire. Hit it again, another decoupler fires. And so on. I have to hit it 8 times to get all the decouplers to fire, then again to fire the KR2L engines.

In the staging bar, everything is correct, all 8 of stage 6 engines, all 8 of the stage 5 Seperators, etc.

I've never seen this before.

I can't post craft or screenshots from this network.

Just deleted the seperators and tried again.

The first one fires and the tank underneath it disappears. (It's on the south side of the rocket, call it 6 o'clock). Hit space bar again, the one at 7 oclock fires, but takes the KR2L above it off. The one at 9 oclock fires, the tank below it disappears, then all the rest just fall off as I decouple them.

Flipping the decoupler "upside down" let's me stage normally, but the decoupler stays stuck to the bottom of the stage 4 rockets and the engine shroud doesn't fall off, but the rocket works.

I understand what you are saying the problem is, but what I don't understand is how you attached the 8 engine clusters to the single tank. Are they clipped together on the bottom or did you attach 8x 14400 around the outside of the core 14400?

Well, not that I said that out loud I realize that I didn't ask it right either.

What is the core of your rocket? How is it that you're getting out to 8x 14400s with the KS-25x4s on bottom?

Regardless, as you're trying to clarify.

There are some bugs with the new decoupler and you might be running into it with your obscenely large setup. It's a known bug but there's a fix. Maybe this is causing the problem.

New Decoupler (TR-38-D) causes crash when staging (linux/mac) or parts of the ship to follow around (windows) – [FIX]

When staging, the new decoupler (TR-38-D) causes a variety of problems depending on your operating system. This problem seems to be worse if struts are involved. Thanks to Kasuha, the problem was narrowed down to the physics of the decoupler and is easily fixed.

1) With a text editor (such as notepad) open up the part.cfg file for the TR-38-D. It should be located in KSP\GameData\NASAmission\Parts\Size3Decoupler\part .cfg

2) Find the line that says “PhysicsSignificance = 1†and change it to “PhysicsSignificance = 0â€Â

3) Save the file and restart KSP.

It would be better if you added a picture of your stages. Maybe even your rocket too.

Why wouldn't you be able to take a SS?

I can take SS, I can't post them. I'm on a corporate network.

Claw, My bad. It was 6, not 8.

But what you posted about the decoupler makes sense, because on the 5th launch I realized my struts were realigned from the way I installed them. I make an x with two struts, always. They had been arranged in some crazy spaghetti in the middle of the empty space under the core, kind of like a net.

EDIT: It's all to the good now. My 115t drilling rig is now on the surface of Minmus making fuels.

Oh dear goodness. If you would have said struts earlier I could have almost guaranteed the decouplers were at fault. :P

Glad you got it fixed!
