Using in-game time instead of space center to guide interplanetary trips

I had a thought over the weekend:

Would it be possible to use in-game time as a reference point for interplanetary travel, instead of going into map mode and best-guessing the position of the planets?

The following assumptions would need to be true:

1) All planets are in the same position every time a new game is started

2) All planets stay in their current orbits, speeds, axis, and rotations

All that said, if it is possible, would that be a better indicator of when to go, rather than pulling out a protractor?

In-game, I do not know. But this tool will give you optimal transfer windows. It's useful to write them down, e.g. For planet X: every y days, starting with day Z . That way you don't need to have the browser open if you already know how to set the burn up, and it gives you time to "prepare" missions :)
