Having a fuel duct problem...

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I've been having an issue with transferring fuel between tanks in the way I want it to.

Pretty much, I have one large tank surrounded by four other tanks. Each tank has its own rocket, and I want the large tank to transfer fuel to the other 4 tanks as they use up fuel. I used the following configuration:

...............[2]

................|

................^

................|

[5] --<-- [1] -->-- [3]

................|

................v

................|

...............[4]

Where [] is a tank, and ->- is a fuel duct (with corresponding direction).

However, lets say that the rocket at tank 2 is being used, the fuel in tank 1 will stay the same while the fuel in tanks 3, 4, and 5 are being drained! I only want the fuel from tank 1 to be transferred, and I'm not really sure how to achieve this. Any and all help would be really appreciated!

Are you opposed to using mods? TAC Fuel Balancer is perfect for this situation. Select your tank 1 and set it to transfer out LF and Ox. You don't need fuel lines at all in that case.

If not, radially connecting fuel lines should work, but it sounds like this is what you're doing and it's just bugged for some reason. You could try manually placing all the lines without symmetry to see if that's causing an issue.

how are the tanks attached? if you used a radial attachment node and then strung out the fuel tanks node-to-node, you'll see the same results even with NO fuel lines. nodes function as fuel lines, and the radial attachment node parts are the only ones that can conduct fuel radially, and then only when attached radially. if you connect a radial attachment node node-first, fuel will not flow through it.

if they're attached radially at any point, then i dunno.

I'm a little opposed to using a mod just to fix this issue. I've just been fiddling about, and it seems that the same thing happens when I remove all the fuel ducts.

edit: Yeah loppness I'm using radial nodes. Is there any way to prevent it from doing that?

edit2: Thanks guys, I fixed the problem by adding docks at the radial attachments and disabling crossfeed. Thanks a bunch! :)

Setting it up the way you want should be no problem, and you should not need any docking ports or crossfeed disabling. The fuel drawing you're trying to set up is described as one of "common errors" as such fuel feed is usually undesired. You can find it in this post. So I kinda wonder what did you actually do wrong.

I don't think the game anticipates that you would use only engine 2 and not the others as the ships thrust would be unbalanced wouldn't it?

The game anticipates nothing, you're free to fly with unbalanced thrust if you wish.
