Tortoise
I don't think many people know how to do this, but as of 0.23.5, you can.1. Go to the VAB or SPH.2. Right-click the light3. A little dialog will pop up, drag the RBG's around (red, green, blue) until you find the color you want.4. ???5. Profit!
rennsport27
Just a little addition (since this confused me at first): even though it only turns one light on at a time, the color editing applies for every light in that set. I don't think there's a way (without mods) to change them individually unless you place them one at a time (not using the symmetry tool).
xcorps
Changing the color of the lights can have a pretty significant value beyond just looking good.If you aren't using a mod that gives you true altitude instead of just the ASL altitude of KSP, you can use the lights as a ranging tool for landing. The round lights have a much longer range than the square lights. If you put the angled down with say a yellow light, you'll know you're a few hundred meters above the ground. If you also have a few red square lights, you'll know when you're under 200 meters. If you play around with the arrangements, you can even set patterns to show up at different altitudes. For instance, you can aim the red lights so that as you close with the ground, the red lit portion of the ground starts to separate as you close. Also, putting them on planes as a nose light can help with nap of the earth flying. Also, landing gears have the same settings.
