building Ares-1

So I've been trying to build an Ares-1 without part for a while now and I can only get it to work by clipping 6 of the largest SRBs together which seems cheaty.

Is there any way of doing a replica without having to resort to massive part clipping?

You can do it with mods. Maybe KW or NovaPunch might have the SRBs you're looking for.

You should check how much dV you need in your second stage. Once your SRB burns out you have to almost immediately ignite the second stage engine, which if you are not high enough in the atmosphere yet could be an issue.

You could always make a mini ares 1 with a single long booster. That's how I made mine, at least.

I know you said you are a stock player but Bobcats American Pack has a wonderful Aries 1. Orion Capsule, and sm complete with IVA. Give it a shot. Even if you delete everything else and keep the SRB its very well balanced and made.

This is the design so far and it uses six long SRBs clipped together which really doesn't sit well with me. :/ I don't mind clipping structural pieces together but with fuel tanks or engines it seem like cheating. The real life Ares-1 used a single Shuttle / SLS booster. Even with this many together I still need to use the service module to circularise.
